Engineering Manager, QA (Hands-On) - Remote

What you’ll do
- Define and drive the QA strategy across functional, integration, load, and end-to-end testing.
- Lead a team that designs and maintains automated test frameworks for APIs, backend services, and real-time pipelines.
- Oversee test plans for conversational AI, telephony integrations, and distributed systems.
- Partner with engineering, infra, and product teams to embed QA into the development lifecycle.
- Own release quality—prevent regressions, validate stability, and ensure observability in production.
- Hire, mentor, and manage QA engineers and interns, setting goals and priorities.
- Establish and track quality metrics (coverage, defect rate, stability) and communicate results across teams.
What you'll bring
- 8+ years in QA or software engineering, including 2+ years in a lead/manager role.
- Proven expertise in automated test frameworks (Python, PyTest, Selenium, Playwright, or similar).
- Strong experience with backend/API testing and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale QA processes in fast-moving environments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on mindset.
Nice to have
- Experience testing conversational AI, telephony (Twilio, SIP), or real-time systems.
- Exposure to performance/load testing at scale.
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Sentry, Prometheus, Honeycomb).
